Republican Tom Emmer Appointed as Vice Chair of House Subcommittee on Digital Assets

On Tuesday, it was announced that Rep. Tom Emmer has been appointed as the vice chairman of the House Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Financial Technology and Artificial Intelligence. This role was previously held by Rep. Bryan Steil, who was recently named as the subcommittee’s chair.

In a statement, Emmer expressed his enthusiasm for this opportunity, stating that with President Trump in office and Gary Gensler no longer in a position of power, there is a chance for Americans to lead and shape the future of digital assets according to American values.

The subcommittee’s jurisdiction includes digital assets, stablecoins, central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), mobile banking, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and the use of AI in finance. As part of his new role, Emmer will work closely with Rep. French Hill and Rep. Steil on legislative and regulatory matters.

He also emphasized his dedication to creating an environment that fosters innovation in the digital asset space.

Known for his support of cryptocurrencies, Emmer has consistently opposed strict federal regulations on digital assets. He has introduced multiple bills related to crypto, with a focus on providing regulatory clarity. One widely recognized bill he proposed is the CBDC Anti-Surveillance State Act.
